On October 16, the opening ceremony for Kazakhstan's Kalbatau–Maikapshagai Highway, constructed by Genertec Xinxing, was held. The ceremony was attended by Abai region Governor Berik Uali, East Kazakhstan region Governor Nurymbet Saktaganov, Chairman of Kazavtozhol Darkhan Imanashev, Wu Ziqiang, Deputy General Manager of Genertec Xinxing, as well as hundreds of representatives from various sectors.
Spanning Abai and East Kazakhstan regions, the Kalbatau–Maikapshagai Highway serves as a key corridor linking central and eastern Kazakhstan with China’s Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region. It is also a flagship project under the Belt and Road Initiative. The project consists of 10 sections with a total length of 415 kilometers and is designed as a two-lane dual carriageway with a speed limit of 120 kilometers per hour.
The highway reduces travel time between Kalbatau and Maikapshagai from six hours to three, significantly improving regional logistics efficiency. It will help boost the development of local mining, agricultural product transportation, and tourism. The project also strengthens cross-border transport connectivity in Central Asia, injecting fresh momentum into China-Kazakhstan connectivity and the broader Eurasian transportation network. |
